Pannier Mount

Karrimor Pannier Redesign

A lightweight, strong and minimalist bike bag mount is difficult to come by. Please send innovative ideas my way.

I received an inquiry about reproducing, via 3d printing, a pannier mount from a vintage Karrimor brand bag. When I received the photos of the original design, I instantly thought that there must be a more sleek and lightweight solution to this cumbersome mount.

In this instance we have a pannier mount that doesn’t quite fit the bike and the original has broken in the process.

Additive manufacturing allows one the design freedom to add complexity at no extra cost but the time it takes to CAD it. The design I landed on as the initial prototype uses this freedom by adding fairleads for the zip ties to tunnel through. This attachment system is very lightweight, simple and strong. It does require a very small amount of support during printing, but the part uses very little filament overall.
